To Whom it May Concern:
Good morning. I’m a very strong IBM certified specialist in RPG development with extensive experience on the AS400 and solid expertise in every stage of the software development life cycle. I have 2 BS degrees and a true love of learning. I’m adept at support and maintenance of existing applications in RPGII, RPGIII, RPGIV, and RPG Free, and I’m well versed ILE concepts, as well as embedded SQL and CL programming.
As Technical Lead at Galaxe Solutions it was my responsibility to create the design plans consisting of business and functional requirements, proposed solutions, impact analysis, flowcharts and diagrams, pseudo code, object lists, etc. I led my team in the coding and testing of the software, and met with the client, DBA’s, and vendors to discuss strategy and gain approvals. I met with other teams to coordinate the exchange of data and plan enterprise testing. I devised the unit test plans, executed the test cases, and supported the QA testers and implementation teams. I work well in a team environment, but I work equally well alone and unsupervised, and I need very little guidance.
In addition to my development work, I quickly became adept at the client practices, and was asked to provide training to my colleagues. In addition I taught classes in RPG ILE concepts, AS400 Query, Basic AS400 commands, Aldon change management software. I was often asked to assist with conflict resolution, negotiating with other teams and CVS executives to resolve issues when the same programming objects were scheduled to be modified by 2 different projects at the same time. I was considered a real problem solver and often mentored other developers.
As Systems Analyst at Dow Jones LMG I was responsible for writing, maintaining, and supporting the Circulation and Advertising applications, all of which were written in-house. I was the Technical Site Rep for 3 of the 17 newspaper sites, and was responsible for the timely resolution of any issues they had with the AS400 as well as the Microsoft Office applications. I was on call 24/7, and no deadlines were ever missed during my 10 year tenure. I was well liked by the users at my sites, and developed good working relationships with all levels of staff.
My greatest strengths are my ability to learn quickly, verbal and written communication, and the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure. I have 2 BS degrees, 1 in Computer Science with Business, and 1 in Sociology with Teacher Certification. My background in teaching has helped me tremendously to more effectively communicate technical matters to people of all different levels and occupations. I’ve had a very well rounded career in IT, and I’ve been able to adapt to each new environment with ease. All I ask is to be challenged, and to have the opportunity to learn and use new technologies. Judging by the responsibilities described for this position, it seems to be exactly the type of job I could excel at, and I would very much like to learn more about it. I hope that you’ll grant me an interview to discuss the project. I can present numerous references as well as samples of my work. I really appreciate your time, and I sincerely hope to hear from you. Thank you.
Best Wishes.
